Erin Puck, Founder of Toys Calm with Timmy Pauxtis

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the many smiles you have brought to my Timmy's face. Toys Calm has brightened Timmy's days with toys, educational materials and emotional support (Erin you are wonderful!) Toys Calm has helped Timmy be happy and stay strong in his battle against a brain tumor."
~~ Susan Pauxtis (Timmy's mom)

"The gifts of toys and computers for the children cared for at Jersey Shore University Medical Center have been a great contribution to the caring and healing process. These gifts make the hospital environment a healing environment, give the children the support to overcome the anxiety and fears of being in a hospital. They allow the children to have time to play and reach out to the Internet or to their friends. We want to thank Toys Calm for their efforts and especially for their ongoing devotion to the needs of children with major illness."
~~ Steven Kairys MD, Chairman, Department of Pediatrics
Jersey Shore University Medical Center

"The toys that have been donated to the department of pediatrics, especially those that have been donated to the Child Protection Program, have been priceless. The ability to provide a child with a soft, cuddly teddy bear to hold while interviewing and examining him/her helps the child to relax and be distracted. This is a very traumatic time for a child, maybe not because they are being stuck with needles or having other invasive procedures, but the psychological trauma is overwhelming. Many times the child does not understand what is going on, or is scared for telling, and just giving them something tangible to hang on to makes all the difference.

Our program would not be able to provide these bears to children if not for the generosity of Toys Calm, the Puck family, and the many people who support them."

Clinical Coordinator Child Protection Program

"Toys Calm has been a truly amazing source of support for patients and families at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The foundation has donated laptop computers along with thousands of toys, games and books for our young patients. As a former patient, Erin knows what it is like to have an extended hospital stay, so she knows what it takes to make a patient smile. The support of Toys Calm has helped to ease the difficulty of a hospital stay for hundreds of children and their families. We are grateful for all Toys Calm has done for our children and we value this partnership tremendously."

"Children healing from the treatment of brain tumors or any ailment is a difficult process. In addition to the obvious issues associated with their illness and the treatment, these children are away from their normal support systems, including siblings, friends, pets, and familiar surroundings. Any effort at normalizing their surroundings has a profound impact on their potential recovery. The use of computers for Internet access, stuffed animals for comfort, or any other item for which they are accustomed, does much more than simply put a smile on their face. These items lessen the feeling of alienation or being singled out. As a result, their re-integration into a normal way of life is hastened. The initiative of Toys Calm has helped many, many children on a smooth path to recovery."
